Exploring Maine by Canoe, Snowshoe and Sail...

Picture
Welcome to Tumblehome Guide Service--

We are a collaboration of many years and many experiences of travel and rest in wilderness settings. Our mission is to carry forward and share the tradition of guiding in Maine, blending new and old ways as we incorporate skills handed down through many generations.

With us, you will have a chance to experience the abundant natural beauty of Maine's inland woods & waterways and iconic coastline. We offer the opportunity to paddle in a homemade wood-canvas canoe, to hike in snowshoes made of wood harvested from our land or to sit at the helm of a traditional wooden sailboat.

Tumblehome trips and courses are for beginner and seasoned adventurers alike as well as for those looking for a simple, relaxing break from the clutter and noise of what has come to be commonplace in many of our daily lives. Our guides and instructors are enthusiastic, dedicated naturalists who enjoy exchanging skills and tricks of the trade with guests. Our camping trips are fully equipped and include delicious healthy meals made with organic and locally sourced ingredients.

Along with guiding, we share a love of homesteading and cultivation of life on the land. We value self-sufficiency at home as well as on the trail and feel that this enriches our lives and contributes to the community around us. We enjoy sharing these interests with others. In addition to our trips, we offer workshops on nature studies, primitive skills, folk arts, homesteading and more.

We deeply value and encourage respect for the land, for each other and for our fellow inhabitants of all species. We believe that each of us holds an ancient connection to the land and to wild places, having all descended from people whose lives were intimately in tune with the earth's seasons. When we take time to explore nature, to be present and to reconnect to this heritage, we learn, laugh, heal, grow, resolve, open and--at the very least--gain a bit of respite from a fast-moving world.

We look forward to hearing from you!
